Rituals and Presence
Varanasi, 2026
Ritual in Varanasi isn’t performed for an audience. It happens anyway. Smoke, water, ash, cloth, sunlight, and the small choreography of daily devotion. These frames sit close on purpose. Not to explain, but to stay with the look in someone’s eyes, the weight of a gesture, the hush between noise. Presence isn’t dramatic. It’s continuous. The city doesn’t announce itself. It unfolds in layers.

Manikarnika doesn’t stop. Fire, ash, prayer, work. A few ghats away, morning arrives like it always does, quiet and unbothered. In between, faces hold the city’s real tempo. Ritual isn’t staged. Presence is the point.
